Building a world with polite Software.
Polite is the new project of Tariq Krim, a European Tech entrepreneur and thinker who is the founder of netvibes and the Jolicloud computing Platform.
Polite combines a Studio, a think tank, and an independent platform.
Building products with purpose.
In 2008, while most people were celebrating the rise of mobile and Cloud monopolies, we were concerned that a handful of platforms could privatize the Internet we loved.
It's the reason why we launched the JoliOS, and the Jolibook to offer a platform-neutral device alternative to connect to our life online.
Our ideas were ahead of their time: we were the first consumer platform to offer a web-based computer (two years before the Google Chromebook) and one of the first companies to put privacy and ownership of your data at the center.
The project was discontinued after the Paris attack.
After a long disconnected, Tariq started advocating an ethical renaissance of the Internet and promoting the Slow Web Movement. Polite is an independent minded Studio based in Paris.
Our product philosophy.
For the last 15 years, we have worked to reduce our dependence on the platforms by simple and neutral interfaces to connect to our content.
The future we want is slower, less confusing, and doesn't need a lot of incompatible devices to work correctly. The future we want should give us more time for ourselves, and help fix longer-term problems like climate change and the future of western democracy.
We believe in the other face of tech, more generous, more inclusive, less pretentious, focused on humans before the machine. If you like our vision and want to work with us, you can contact us here.
